Founded in 1946 by three New England natives and friends, shoemaker Sebago debuted with its first hand-sewn penny loafer, inspired by popular Indian moccasins, to great success. By 1954, Sebago had made 1,000,000 shoes, which were now front and center of huge stores including Sears and Montgomery Ward, before it began to export around the world. In 1970, Sebago's best-known creation - the iconic Dockside boat shoe - became its most enduring design, and has since been worn by Pharrell Williams, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and Kate Middleton.
